My wife-to-be and I were fortunate to get the opportunity to sing in a combined choir in a concert for Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, in the Wellington Town Hall on 7 February 1958. We sang Parry’s ‘Blessed Pair of Sirens’ with the National Orchestra. It was a magnificent night of music.

The audience was also a magnificent sight. Dress was quite formal, no jeans and tieless shirts in those days. I still have the programme from that concert (pictured above).
