In the early 1950s we lived in Kent Terrace opposite the Basin Reserve. As a young six year old, I remember going to amateur boxing at the Town Hall of an evening with my father. I enjoyed the bouts in the various weight ranges, some of the combatants not much bigger than me.

And oh the joy of going to the ‘Green Parrot’ afterwards for oysters and chips and a round of bread and butter!
